The sewage system therefore has a lot to cope with: According to the Federal Environment Agency, over five billion cubic meters of wastewater from households, industry and commerce flow into the sewage system every year. Added to this are a further five billion cubic meters of rainwater and infiltration that finds its way into the sewer system via leaks. Reliable sewage pipes are important here - to avoid damage and thus operational failures and high repair costs.
How to make the sewage system more robust
The sewer system must function permanently - because in the event of damage, the operators of the sewer system quickly face high costs. However, defects in pipes are a frequent cause of damage. This is where the details matter: Damage is often caused by the pipe connections or defective connections. Axial or horizontal displacements frequently occur in push-fit connections, which lead to leaks and thus to infiltration and exfiltration or ingrowing tree roots. Local authorities should keep an eye on these weak points in the sewer system and focus on homogeneous pipe connections. These ensure that the sewer system is leakproof, root-resistant and reliable.
